NATIONAL ATHLETIC TRAINING MONTH 2014

Day 1

Name: Stephenie Stark, MS, LAT, ATC

Employer: Gardner Webb University and Director of Communications with Christian Sports Medicine Alliance

City: Shelby, NC

Career Goal: Create new and innovative opportunities for athletic trainers in the US and internationally.

Fun Fact: This picture is from my first time ever at the NCAA women’s basketball tournament with Gardner-Webb University. One of the many highlights of my career this far.

Career Goal: To provide every Sports Medicine professional and student the opportunity to hear and know the Hope that is found in Jesus Christ and to give them to opportunity to use their skills to make God Famous on the Mission field

Fun Fact: This pic was taken in 2012 while I was in Burkina Faso. I am with a good friend and pastor delivering medical supplies to him which he uses to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to his village. His village is 100% Muslim.

Day 3

Career Goal: To give back to the profession through educating others on the need for ATCs everywhere and becoming to a mentor to those AT students and young ATCs.

Fun Fact: This picture was taken after working the Jenny Finch Softball Camp and I had to opportunity to talk about Jesus Christ with these two lovely women, Jenny Finch and Leah O’Brien Amico. Its not every day you get to meet Olympic Gold Medalist that know the Lord the way they do. Truly Blessed!

Day 4

Career Goal: My goal is to be able to reach out to my athletes and my student trainers that I come in contact with on a daily basis. I want to let them know that there is someone who wants them to succeed. And that’s in recovery from an injury and in life.

Fun Fact: I really enjoy hunting and mountain biking, but one of my favorite sports is hockey and I am a big fan of the Dallas Stars. I also play roller and ice hockey.

Career Goal: To serve every athlete, coach, and athletic administrator with whom I come into contact with all the knowledge, skills, and compassion given to me, and to express my love for Christ through my interactions with those for whom I am responsible.

Fun Fact: This is a 2009 picture from a medical mission trip to Ethiopia where I witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit move powerfully among the team and those we were there to serve.

Day 6

Career Goal: To many to list… Become a huge advocate for the profession of athletic training- bringing awareness of the profession and need for ATs WORLDWIDE. Also would love to further my medical career and work dually as an AT/PA for lower income clinics or sport recreation programs!

Fun Fact: This picture resonates with everything I am passionate about, helping & ministering to youth aged athletes along with mentoring youth aged females. It is in moments like this, I pray every athlete has access to an Athletic trainer! God continuously confirms my purpose in life when I can a difference in the life of even ONE athlete.

Day 7

Career Goal- My goal is to encourage all state athletic training associations to adopt a sickle cell trait policy.

Fun Fact- I received my bachelor’s degree from Eureka College, a small division III college in central Illinois where former president Ronald Reagan also attended.

Career Goal: To share the Gospel of Jesus Christ at home and around the world through my skills, knowledge, and education in Sports Medicine.

Day 10

Career Goal: To have a long joyful career serving athletes. Hopefully have a positive impact on a few in the process.

Fun Fact: Father of 3 (5 y/o daughter, 2 y/o daughter, 10 mo/old son); Played College Football @ UMHB; Eagle Scout

Career Goal: To make a difference in the profession of Athletic Training at the national level and become involved in the education of Athletic Training Students.

Fun Fact: I am a die hard New York Mets fan in a world where there are few of us left.

City: The Woodlands, TX

Career Goal: Helping people stay active, return to activities they love, or realize a new passion through sports and sports medicine in order to use sports and people’s ability to participate to reach the nations and spread the Kingdom of God.

Fun Fact: I just got married to an amazing man I met on my first CSMA trip to Ukraine. The picture below is from the first week we met and our wedding day almost 2 years later.

Career Goal: To spread the Good News of Jesus Christ through my actions and deeds as an Athletic Trainer and Educator.

Fun Fact: My wife (who didn’t know what she was getting into by marrying an AT) and I are high school sweethearts we have been married for 12 years and together for 17 years. I credit her with getting me back on the path to a personal relationship with Christ.

Fun Fact: Returned back to my home town after 18 years in Florida to find myself working on athletes whose parents I graduated with….”I am officially getting old yet I don’t feel old.”

Career Goal: My career goal has always been to use the knowledge and skills I have been blessed with to help and educate others. I have been able to work in a variety of venues in the short time I have been in the profession. Ultimately I would like to be in a Head position at a High School in the future, but I am in no hurry as long as I get the opportunity to serve others

Fun Fact: I enjoy hanging out with family and friend. I have been in the profession seven years and have five championship rings and several other opportunities to work with great teams.

Assistant; it’s analogous to a Resident Assistant.

Career Goal: To become a physical therapist

Fun fact about me is that I want to play the drums for a band one day.

Day 18

Employer: Erskine College

City: Abbeville, SC

Career Goal: My short-term career goal is to obtain my Doctorate of Athletic Training from the University of Idaho (I start the program this summer 2014). My long-term career goal is to continue to serve athletes and glorify Christ in a college or university setting wherever the Lord leads my wife and I.

Fun Fact: I switched my major 4 times while in undergraduate school (Theater, geography, psychology and then athletic training). Also, I took a 10-day wilderness survival course on canoes in the Everglades. . . I survived.

Day 19

Career Goal: I have worked in several different settings and levels. I feel the college level is where God wants me to stay for a while and I hope to have a Christ-like influence on the athletes and coaches I work with.

Fun Fact: When I first came to USF, I covered football for 7 years but got burnt out on it. Now I’ve settled down to covering men’s soccer, basketball and baseball. Even though I am covering 3 sports instead of 1, I still have fewer athletes to care for than I did just covering football.

Career Goals: Find a way to combine my love and passion for fitness, wellness/health, athletic training, and God into my daily interactions with students, athletes, coaches, parents, and peers

Fun Fact: I had never been to Texas before I moved here from Connecticut at the age of 23!

Employer – Lower Dauphin School District since 2001

State – Pennsylvania

Career Goals – My goals are to strive to be a better AT everyday to the athletes I am blessed to work with at Lower Dauphin School District. I also want to continue to serve in the leadership of the PA Athletic Trainer’s Society. A dream would be to serve on the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee for the PIAA, but that may be years down the road. I love the high school setting because of the opportunities to be involved in so many kids’ lives for up to 6 years. I can’t imagine ever leaving.

Fun Fact – The pictures are of my student athletic training staff (one college student and the rest high school students) at the PIAA State Semifinal football game in December, 2013. It was a very cold day in Altoona, PA. The other picture is of me taping an athlete’s wrist before the game.

Day 22

Name: Jacky Andreatta.

City: Cisco Texas. He has his Masters from Texas Tech university.

Jacky is the best AT I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He doesn’t just teach us how to be effective trainers. He teaches us how to be amazing people. He genuinely cares about us. He has seen me through some of the hardest moments of my life. He believes in second chances. He believes in trust and loyalty as well. He hold us accountable for our actions, and makes sure we come away from every situation with a lesson learned. He is the epitome of what a hero should be. He is the reason I love Sports medicine.

Career Goal: I would like to eventually work at a high school and then move up to a college level. Going pro as an athletic trainer is my ultimate dream.

Fun Fact: I have been to Southeast Asia with athletic training twice.

Career Goal: My goal is to continue to excel in the field of Athletic Training while also growing closer to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I would also like to eventually be able to take the things I have learned here to other countries around the world and I would like to work with the rodeo more often. I would like to learn more and more techniques and procedures with each day to better serve the athletes I work with, and to walk in Christ so that my lifestyle is a witness to the sovereignty of God.

Fun Fact: I love to incorporate laughter into the treatments for my athletes when it is appropriate because I feel that laughter is the best therapy there is.
